The 6^th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Nepal Association of Tour Operators (NATO) was held on August 18, 2006 amidst a function organized at Le Meridien, Gokarna. Mr. Madhav Prasad Ghimire, Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation graced the function and stressed on the need to initiate tourism promotion to harness maximum benefits from the upcoming tourist arrival season. During the program, he also highlighted the importance of accessibility for the upliftment of the industry.

 

   Mr. Basant Raj Mishra, President of NATO, emphasized on the major challenge of changing the perception of foreign tour operators and consumers. Speaking during the program, he voiced his concern about the fact that major foreign tour operators have still not included Nepal in their travel brochures even after peace has prevailed in Nepal. He also focused on the importance of a high level delegation, including members from the government along with the private sector, visiting our traditional market countries, which would help Nepal capture its potential market.

 

   The Honorary Secretary of NATO, Mr. Ashok Pokharel, presented the Secretary's Annual Report. He highlighted all the past activities of NATO for two consecutive years from 2004 to 2006 and recommended several measures for the recovery of the tourism industry. He also put forth various events that the association is planning to organize to create market opportunities for its members.

 

   On behalf of the Honorary Treasurer of NATO, Mr. Sridhar Acharya, Mr. Nem Lal Amatya, Chartered Accountant presented the financial position of the association.

 

   The AGM was followed by election for the year 2006- 2009. The following members were elected for various positions in the Association:
