Nepal’s Situation Update
Dear Partners,
After the international community showed its serious concern over the series of protests announced by the Unified Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist, Chairman of the party Puspha Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ called off its scheduled programme of November 10 to surround the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).
On November 3, 2009, Maoist leader Prachanda held a meeting with 12 envoys of the different countries, including India, the European Union, the United States, Russia and heads of international agencies at a hotel in Kathmandu.
During the meeting the Maoist leaders assured the envoys that they would not hold any violent protests.
Meanwhile, senior leaders of the three major political parties in Nepal- the Nepali Congress, the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) and the UCPN-Maoist held a meeting on November 3. The parleys are going on to seek a peaceful solution to the current political deadlock in the country.
Tourist vehicles are plying smoothly in Kathmandu and other tourist spots.
NATO and its member companies are closely monitoring the situation. We will continue to update the situation for your kind notice.
Sincerely Yours,
Basant Raj Mishra
